Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of April 16, 2015.
Mortality: Mortality rates recorded by civil registry offices have returned to their usual fluctuations, with figures close to expected levels for both all age groups and the elderly.
Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: According to available data, emergency room activity for those aged 75 and older is in line with expectations. Activity for children under 1 year of age is on the rise, approaching the alert threshold.
Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situation this week.
Acute Gastroenteritis (AG)In Aquitaine, activity has risen slightly and is close to the epidemic threshold for SOS Médecins consultations; since September 2014, 36 cases of AG have been reported by facilities caring for the elderly. Nationally, AG consultation activity in primary care is moderate to high and decreasing, according to the Oscour® network.
Influenza and influenza-like illnesses2014-2015 season summary: The epidemic has ended in both mainland France and Aquitaine, with all indicators back to baseline levels. In the region, 1.4% of activity was related to influenza for SOS Médecins (compared to 2.0% in S14-2015) and less than 0.1% for Oscour®. No new reports of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes.
BronchiolitisSummary of the 2014–2015 season: a moderate-intensity epidemic relatively comparable to the previous season. Increase in activity around mid-November; the epidemic began in week 49, with a peak in activity between weeks 51 of 2014 and 01 of 2015 (depending on data sources), though of lesser magnitude than the previous season.
Respiratory virology and enterovirus meningitis: Stabilization of influenza virus circulation according to the Bordeaux University Hospital. Only 3 positive samples for influenza B, and 50% of positive samples are rhinovirus.
Carbon monoxide poisoning (update as of 04/15/15)Summary of the 2014-2015 heating season: Since September 2014, 51 episodes of CO poisoning affecting 159 people in Aquitaine (2 deaths). Nationwide, 984 cases have been reported since September 2014, compared to 1,009 during the previous season.
