Epitox The HPST Act of July 21, 2009 entrusts the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS), which has been leading and coordinating the network since 2004, with the organization of toxicovigilance. The toxicovigilance network currently relies on the activities of 10 poison control and toxicovigilance centers (CAPTV) that provide, in particular, a medical response to toxicological emergencies via a 24-hour hotline, as well as three Toxicovigilance Centers (CTV) without 24-hour telephone service. Initially focused on iatrogenic risks, the French surveillance system has gradually expanded to cover toxic risks associated with natural products or substances available on the market or present in the environment (narcotics, tattoo products, household and everyday items, certain foodstuffs, pollutants, etc.).
