COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Nouvelle-Aquitaine as of November 12, 2020
Key Points
In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the epidemiological situation remains concerning, with an incidence rate of 281.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (ranging from 110.2 in Charente-Maritime to 480.0 in Pyrénées-Atlantiques). The number of confirmed cases in long-term care facilities, new
hospitalizations, and new admissions to intensive care, as well as the number of COVID-19 deaths, continued to rise in week 45.
The increases in these indicators are particularly pronounced among people aged 65 and older, for whom the rise in emergency department visits due to COVID-19 is the most significant. This trend among the oldest and most vulnerable individuals suggests that hospitalizations and deaths will continue to rise in the coming weeks. Indeed, severe cases occur some time after the onset of clinical symptoms: hospitalizations and ICU admissions occur one to two weeks after the onset of symptoms, and deaths occur three to four weeks later.
