COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Nouvelle-Aquitaine as of May 27, 2021

Key Points

Viral circulation is relatively stable in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, and the epidemic remains at a high level, with an incidence rate above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants. In week 20 of 2021, 4,653 new cases were confirmed in the region, an increase compared to the previous week.

The regional testing rate increased in Week 20, reaching 2,969 per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 2,633 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 19). More than 178,000 people were tested in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The incidence rate is stable compared to last week but remains high at 77.6 per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 74.5 per 100,000 inhabitants in week 19).

The positivity rate is also stable and remains below the 5% threshold of concern, standing at 2.6% (compared to 2.8% in week 19). Among asymptomatic individuals, this rate is 1.6%, compared to 11.5% among symptomatic individuals.
