Asthma Surveillance in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. Update as of September 19, 2022.
Key Points
Every year, during the two weeks following the start of the school year, a spike in emergency care visits for asthma is observed among children under 15.
In mainland France, the school year began on Thursday, September 1, 2022; Santé Publique France conducts weekly monitoring based on data from the OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins networks.
Status as of September 19, 2022:
In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, during week 37 (September 12–18, 2022), the increase in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations for asthma among children under 15 continued, accounting for 4.1% and 2.1% of total activity, respectively; slightly below what was observed in previous years during the same period.
Nationally, asthma-related visits to emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics have been on the rise among children since the week school started. The increases observed remain comparable to those of the previous three years.
