Influenza Surveillance in Upper and Lower Normandy. Update as of December 6, 2012.

National Situation

According to Inserm’s Sentinelles network, the incidence of influenza-like illness cases seen in general practice was estimated at 71 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in mainland France, below the epidemic threshold (159 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 2012-48). Flu activity remains low.

According to the Grog network of physicians, influenza detections remain sporadic in week 2012-48 (a few cases of influenza A and B have been reported in several regions). Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) activity has reached epidemic levels in mainland France, leading to a modest increase in the incidence of acute respiratory infections in outpatient care, though levels remain within the usual range for this time of year.

According to the InVS, influenza activity is also low in the rest of Europe.

Observations made during week 2012-48 show that the epidemic situation remains calm, with no signs of sustained circulation of influenza viruses in mainland France.
