Health Monitoring in Normandy. Update as of January 10, 2024.
Key Points
Acute Gastroenteritis
The number of visits for acute gastroenteritis to emergency departments and primary care practices (SOS Médecins) has declined following last week’s sharp increase but remains at high levels.
The number of emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis continues to rise among those under 15, confirming the usual seasonal increase in acute gastroenteritis during this period.
The number of emergency department visits for foodborne illness (FBI) also decreased after the peak in week 51 of 2023, which was consistent with the increase in reports to the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of foodborne illness linked to oyster consumption during that same period.
Pneumonia
The number of emergency department visits for pneumonia among children under 15 is slightly up, while outpatient visits (SOS Médecins) are decreasing but remain at high levels.
Flu
Normandy has been in the pre-epidemic phase since week 51.
Indicators are rising slightly in emergency departments and in private practice (SOS Médecins).
The AH1N1 subtype accounts for the majority of samples collected in hospitals.
Bronchiolitis
Normandy has entered the post-epidemic phase.
All indicators continue to decline, confirming the waning of the current epidemic wave in Normandy.
COVID-19
The decline in emergency room visits and procedures at SOS Médecins continues.
The number of positive laboratory test results is also decreasing.
Detection of BA.2.86, the predominant variant in the region, has risen sharply in recent weeks. This increase is primarily driven by its JN.1 sublineage.
