Health Monitoring in the Normandy Region. Update as of January 27, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

COVID-19 transmission remained high in Normandy, with a marked increase of +28% to reach 3,289 per 100,000 inhabitants in week 03-2022. The positivity rate also continued to rise, reaching 32.7%. For the second consecutive week, the incidence rate is declining, likely due to the widespread use of at-home tests. Hospital and outpatient activity indicators are trending upward, and the number of new admissions to intensive care units increased slightly.

CoviPrev - Monitoring of Protective Measures Adoption - Results of Wave 31

In Normandy, mask-wearing compliance increased for the third consecutive survey wave, though not significantly, and stood at 73% prevalence in Wave 31 (January 11–18, 2022). Adherence to the “wash hands regularly” measure stabilized at around 63% in wave 31, compared to 65% in wave 30.

In wave 31, more than 4 out of 10 participants (44%) reported avoiding gatherings and in-person meetings. This proportion increased in Wave 31, reaching the level seen in Wave 24 (May 17–19, 2021, following the end of the third lockdown). Adherence to the measure “greeting without shaking hands and avoiding hugs” increased for the second consecutive wave but not significantly in Wave 31 (67%). However, the adoption rate of this measure is much lower compared to Wave 2 (March 30–April 1, 2020), when the adoption rate stood at 92%.

Flu

Pre-epidemic phase. The proportion of activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins for flu-like symptoms was increasing. This increase affected all age groups. The incidence rate of flu-like syndromes reported by the Sentinelles network was decreasing.

Bronchiolitis

Post-epidemic phase. Emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were decreasing, and activity was moderate. The number of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit was again declining. The number of SOS Médecins consultations for bronchiolitis was slightly increasing, and activity was moderate

Acute gastroenteritis

Activity for acute gastroenteritis (AGE) across all age groups in emergency departments was stable in week 03. The number of AGE consultations with SOS Médecins was stable, corresponding to a high level of activity. The incidence of acute diarrhea estimated by the Sentinelles network was increasing and at a level similar to 2019–2020.
