COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy, June 4, 2020
Summary
Normandy was relatively spared by the first wave of the epidemic. As of June 4, all selected indicators continue to show no resurgence of community transmission in Normandy. However, COVID-19 cases are still being identified daily by laboratories in the region, confirming that the virus is still circulating, as it is throughout the country. The number of positive tests reported via the SI-DEP platform and the incidence rate calculated from this data are also influenced by testing activity.
Identification of isolated cases and clusters
As of June 4, Normandy had identified two clusters still under investigation (one in a healthcare facility and one in an extended family setting). The challenge today is to contain these transmission chains linked to contact with cases returning to their activities with the same effectiveness as was achieved during the lockdown period. Controlling these situations is crucial for Normandy, given the low proportion of people who have already contracted the virus and therefore a potential for spread that is virtually at the same level as before the lockdown phase.
Daily Assessment of the Epidemiological Situation
The epidemiological situation is closely monitored by all healthcare stakeholders in the region (SOS Médecins associations, public and private healthcare facilities, laboratories, etc.), as well as through the multiple surveillance systems established with their collaboration.
Every day, a contextual analysis of the potential vulnerability of regions, based on data from these systems, is conducted. This provides health authorities with a daily epidemiological assessment of the regional situation to track the evolution of the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Normandy Regional Health Agency issues daily updates to prevent, inform, and support healthcare providers and the public. This Weekly Epidemiological Report compiles all available indicators for monitoring the COVID-19 epidemic.
