Ile-de-France Public Health Bulletin. No. 8 – October 2012.

Editorial

Established over 100 years ago by the Law of November 30, 1892, on the practice of medicine, the mandatory reporting (MR) of certain diseases remains today one of the pillars of epidemic risk control and epidemiological surveillance. This issue of the Bulletin de Veille Sanitaire is devoted to diseases reported in 2010.

The year 2010 was particularly marked by the measles epidemic, which, although less severe than in southern France, resulted in 759 cases in the region and required significant mobilization by the Regional Health Agency (ARS). The very high proportion of young adults among the cases underscores the need for a catch-up vaccination campaign in this age group. Tuberculosis continues to have a high reported incidence in the Île-de-France region, with a rate of 16.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 8.1 nationwide. Preliminary data on treatment outcomes are published in this issue. Although the data are not yet comprehensive (information available in 58% of cases), this information allows us to make an initial assessment: 72% of patients completed their treatment, highlighting the effort required to achieve effective treatment for the vast majority of cases.
