Health Monitoring of Migrant Populations in Calais and Grande Synthe. Update as of April 1, 2016.

Key points

  • The MSF clinic left the Calais camp on March 1, 2016. The J. Ferry branch of the PASS is now the sole provider of primary care at the camp. Because the data provided by the Calais PASS (J. Ferry branch, Calais Hospital branch) and the Calais Hospital Emergency Department is incomplete, the data cannot be interpreted. We are no longer able to present health data regarding migrants residing in the Calais camp in this epidemiological report.

  • Migrants residing in the "Basroch" camp moved during weeks 9 and 10 to a new camp set up in Grande-Synthe. The Red Cross (RC) also provides consultations at this camp on weekends (1.5 days); the data have been added to the Epidemiological Report starting in week 11.

  • The proportion of consultations for influenza-like illness and acute lower respiratory tract infections continued to decline this week at the Grande-Synthe site (respectively < 1% (n=2) and 7% (n=18) in week 12). In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, all indicators of activity for influenza-like illness at the hospital and outpatient levels (SOS Médecins) began to decline in week 12 but remain at a high level. This calls for vigilance. It should be noted that during the measles vaccination campaign conducted in February 2016 at the Grande-Synthe camp, 433 people were also vaccinated against the flu.

  • The proportion of trauma-related care visits has been increasing since week 10, reaching 14% (n=35) in week 12. Among the 25 cases for which information was available, 17 (68%) were accidental injuries unrelated to border crossings, 5 (20%) were accidental injuries related to border crossings, 2 (8%) resulted from violence during clashes unrelated to law enforcement, and 1 (4%) resulted from violence during clashes with law enforcement.
