COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Hauts-de-France Region as of September 10, 2020

Key Points

  • The number of new confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the weekly incidence rate (IR) more than doubled (2.5 times) in week 36 in the region, with 4,186 new cases detected (IR of 68.1 cases per 105 residents). The positivity rate doubled (5.6% versus 2.8% the previous week).

  • Indicators of an epidemic resurgence have reached very high levels, exceeding alert thresholds in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais departments.

  • This resurgence affects all age groups but particularly young adults aged 15–29 (incidence rate of 146.2 cases per 105 inhabitants).

  • While the impact of the resurgence on regional outpatient and hospital care capacity remains limited at this time, the significant increase in new hospitalizations and ICU admissions, as well as the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in long-term care facilities (ESMS) and nursing homes (Ehpa) in the region, should prompt the utmost vigilance and the strengthening of measures to prevent transmission.
