COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Hauts-de-France Region as of May 14, 2020

Summary

What is currently known about the situation in the region?

The Hauts-de-France region detected its first cases of local transmission of COVID-19 in the Oise department three months ago. Community spread of the virus peaked in late March, followed by a steady decline in the epidemic, with the implementation of lockdown measures both in the region and nationwide. Links to national and regional reports.
The various measures put in place have helped contain the spread of the virus and mitigate its health impact. However, while the virus is less prevalent today, it is still present, and as we resume daily activities and personal and professional travel, we must learn to live with it and control its spread.

What’s new in this Update for the region?

Health indicators show that the level of viral circulation in the community remains low and generally stable since last week. However, indicators of healthcare utilization and positive test rates remain higher in Aisne and Oise compared to the regional average. We must therefore remain highly vigilant as socio-economic activities resume, continuing to follow preventive measures to limit the spread of the virus as much as possible and protect those around us.
Santé Publique France continues its surveillance activities by conducting a daily contextualized regional analysis. This analysis relies on regional surveillance networks (laboratories, healthcare professionals, and surveillance staff) and provides regional health authorities and the Ministry of Health with a comprehensive set of indicators to monitor the COVID-19 epidemic on a daily basis. This week, page 13 of the Point Epidémio highlights ongoing studies at Santé publique France and currently available results: a national survey of COVID-19 cases among healthcare facility staff; a barometer of behaviors and mental health during lockdown.
The initial results of the surveillance of pediatric cases of myocarditis with cardiogenic shock in the context of COVID-19, conducted in partnership with the relevant professional societies, are available in this week’s national report.

Which organizations are active in the region?

Regional health stakeholders are now mobilized at all levels to best support the population and institutions as lockdown measures are lifted and to prevent a resurgence of the epidemic.

  • Healthcare professionals (private practitioners) are on the front lines for managing cases and identifying close contacts.

  • Local contact tracing platforms, bringing together expertise from the Health Insurance Fund and the Regional Health Agency and operational since the start of the week, are responsible for identifying and monitoring new cases and supporting them (isolation and compliance with lockdown measures, sick leave, diagnosis, contact tracing, and follow-up of cases and their contacts).

  • This system is supplemented by departmental and regional expert teams combining multidisciplinary expertise (Regional Health Agency, Public Health France, CPIAS, medical-social services, etc.) essential for the early identification, characterization, and management of any situation involving clusters of cases or localized resurgence of the epidemic.
