Epidemiological Situation of the Zika Virus in the French West Indies and French Guiana. Update as of November 24, 2016.
Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation
In Martinique, since the end of the epidemic, Zika epidemiological surveillance indicators have shown low viral circulation throughout the department.
In French Guiana, epidemiological indicators show that Zika-related activity has remained low throughout the territory over the past two weeks (S2016-45 to S2016-46), although the virus continues to circulate. In addition, an outbreak was reported in the Cayenne Island area, in the municipality of Rémire-Montjoly. As a reminder, the Zika epidemic has been over in the territory since the third week of September, and on October 18, 2016, the French Guiana Prefecture officially returned the Cayenne Island sector to Phase 4, “End of Epidemic,” of the Psage*. On November 10, the Expert Committee proposed to the Management Committee a transition to Phase 2 of the Psage* (“epidemic outbreaks”) in the Cayenne Island sector and a transition to Phase 1 of the Psage* (“sporadic cases”) in the rest of the territory.
In Guadeloupe, surveillance indicators show sporadic circulation of the Zika virus since the end of the epidemic (S2016-38).
In Saint Martin, the decrease in the estimated number of suspected cases observed since mid-October has not been confirmed. The virus is still actively circulating on the island. The epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 3a of the Psage*: “epidemic phase requiring standard management measures.”
In Saint-Barthélemy, the epidemic continues to decline, but the epidemiological situation still corresponds to phase 3a of the Psage*: “epidemic phase requiring standard management measures.”
