Epidemiological Situation of the Zika Virus in the French West Indies and French Guiana. Update as of November 10, 2016.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

In Martinique, since the end of the epidemic declared on October 13, 2016, epidemiological surveillance indicators have shown low viral circulation.

In Guadeloupe, the decline in the outbreak has continued over the past few weeks, and surveillance indicators have reached sufficiently low levels to declare the end of the outbreak. The epidemiological situation in Guadeloupe corresponds to Phase 4 of the Psage*—“end of outbreak”—as of week 38 of 2016.

In French Guiana, the number of clinically suggestive and confirmed Zika cases has been low over the past three weeks. The epidemiological situation across the entire territory corresponds to sporadic viral circulation, except on the island of Cayenne, where outbreaks are being observed. On September 9, the Management Committee approved the transition to Level 4 “end of epidemic” for the West and Kourou sectors, and on October 18, it approved the transition to Level 4 “end of epidemic” for the Cayenne Island sector. The epidemiological situation in the coastal sectors was presented to the members of the Expert Committee, who are recommending to the Management Committee a transition to Phase 1 of the Psage* arbovirus protocol (“sporadic cases”) for the West and Kourou sectors, and a transition to Phase 2 of the Psage* arbovirus protocol (“epidemic outbreaks”) for the Cayenne Island sector.

In Saint Martin, the decline in the estimated number of suspected cases is slower. The epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 3a of the Psage* “epidemic phase requiring standard management measures.”

In Saint Barthélemy, the epidemic has continued to decline in recent weeks, and the evolution of the epidemiological situation should be closely monitored over the coming weeks. The epidemiological situation in Saint Barthélemy corresponds to Phase 3a of the Psage*: "epidemic phase requiring standard management measures."
