Epidemiological Situation of Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of July 17, 2020.
Epidemiological Overview
Most of French Guiana has been in an epidemic situation for several weeks: the Maroni, West Coast, Kourou, and Cayenne Island sectors. The Oyapock region is experiencing “epidemic outbreaks,” corresponding to Phase 2 of the dengue response plan. In the rest of the territory, only sporadic cases are being observed.
The emergence of new dengue cases in French Guiana has slowed significantly in recent weeks, suggesting that the peak of the epidemic may have been reached.
Emergency room visits and hospitalizations for dengue are also decreasing. Two deaths were reported in May.
Dengue transmission is in sharp decline in the Maroni sector and appears to be slowing in the West Coast and Cayenne Island sectors. However, it remains very active in the Kourou sector.
