Epidemiological Situation of Chikungunya in French Guiana. Update as of July 31, 2015.

Analysis of the epidemiological situation

Areas with outbreaks:

The weekly number of clinically suspected chikungunya cases is decreasing in the Kourou sector. This trend remains to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Areas with moderate local transmission of the virus:

In areas where the chikungunya outbreak has ended, viral circulation is currently low in western French Guiana and the Maroni region. The upward trend observed on Cayenne Island should be interpreted with caution, as it is primarily due to an incomplete network of sentinel physicians during the second week of July.

Finally, outbreaks have been identified only on Cayenne Island.

In St. Georges and the other municipalities that have never experienced an outbreak, no confirmed cases have been recorded for several weeks.
