COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of April 16, 2020

Key indicators (data as of April 16, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.)

Individual Monitoring

  • 96 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in French Guiana, including 42 imported cases (infection outside French Guiana) and 54 local cases (infection within French Guiana)

  • 27% of cases are linked to local transmission

  • 15 clusters averaging 4.5 cases, mostly within families.

  • Two significant clusters in early April, one in the community (21 cases) and the other involving healthcare workers in a hospital setting, currently under investigation.

Surveillance by the Sentinel Physician Network

  • 22 (tele) consultations for acute respiratory infection (ARI) per 100,000 inhabitants in private practice during week 15 (data to be consolidated). A portion of these ARIs could be attributed to COVID-19.
