Key Points

For the past three weeks, acute respiratory infections have been on the rise in French Guiana. These are primarily caused by RSV, which is responsible for bronchiolitis in infants: French Guiana has been in the midst of an epidemic for the past week. Meanwhile, influenza and COVID-19 viruses have been detected only rarely to date.

Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI)

Activity is slightly increasing in primary care and significantly increasing in hospitals.

Influenza

Activity is low. The influenza virus has been identified only once by hospital laboratories.

Bronchiolitis

Surveillance indicators have been rising since early September. In week 41, indicator levels are rising in hospitals, reflecting the start of the epidemic in the region.

COVID-19

Low activity. The region is in an inter-epidemic phase.
