Public Health Bulletin on Arboviruses in the Grand Est Region. July 2021.
Key Points
Between 2017 and 2020, 158 imported cases of dengue, 12 imported cases of chikungunya, and 6 imported cases of Zika virus infection were reported in the Grand Est region under mandatory reporting requirements.
In 2019, two departments in the region (Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin) were included in enhanced surveillance for dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus infections. This surveillance was expanded to all departments in the region starting in 2020. It is in effect from May 1 to November 30 each year.
Under the enhanced surveillance program, 21 confirmed cases were reported in 2019 (including 19 cases of dengue and 2 cases of chikungunya) and 59 cases in 2020 (including 58 cases of dengue and 1 case of chikungunya).
All reported cases were imported. For dengue cases, infections occurred primarily during trips to Asia in 2019 and to the French West Indies (mainly Martinique and Guadeloupe) in 2020.
