Heatwave in the Grand-Est region. Summer 2021 summary.

From June 1 to September 15, 2021, the Grand Est region experienced a heat wave from June 16 to 19.

  • Two departments were affected during this period: Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin

  • During the heat wave, an increase in the use of emergency department services at healthcare facilities and SOS Médecins for heat-related conditions was observed across all age groups

  • The age groups most affected were those aged 15–74 for SOS Médecins consultations and emergency room visits, and those aged 75 and older for hospitalizations

  • An excess mortality of 22 [16–31] deaths was observed during the heatwave in the region.
