Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of January 26, 2017.

Key Points

Gastroenteritis Surveillance

  • Gastroenteritis-related activity in emergency departments across the region remains high. In Week 03, the downward trend continued, with 190 diagnoses per 10,000 visits.

  • According to the SOS Médecins network, gastroenteritis activity fluctuates around the levels typically observed in previous years during the same period.

  • High activity is still being observed within the Sentinelles Network, with the epidemic threshold for acute diarrhea having been exceeded.

  • According to data from the Nancy virology laboratory, rotavirus is currently the predominant circulating enterovirus.

Bronchiolitis Surveillance

  • In the Grand Est region, the level of bronchiolitis-related activity in the region’s emergency departments remains stable compared to Week 2.

  • A downward trend in bronchiolitis-related activity is observed among SOS Médecins associations.

  • However, the Grand Est region remains in an epidemic phase

  • RSV continues to circulate in the region.

Influenza Surveillance

  • After a decrease in Week 01, influenza-related activity in emergency departments is on the rise.

  • Influenza-related activity is on the rise among SOS Médecins associations.

  • The Grand-Est region is in an epidemic phase

  • Virological data also show significant circulation of influenza A virus.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Surveillance

  • During weeks 02 and 03, there were 9 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning affecting 28 people.

Mortality surveillance

  • According to data available as of January 24, 2017, the significant increase in mortality observed in the Grand Est region has continued for the sixth consecutive week (through week 02).
