Key Points

COVID-19

  • After 4 weeks of decline and 1 week of stabilization, the trend has reversed since week 10-2022. In week 12 of 2022, the incidence rate continued to rise, reaching 1,658 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 1,300 in week 11 of 2022 and 999 in week 10 of 2022).

  • This increase in viral circulation is observed across all age groups, with the highest incidence rate found among adolescents aged 10 to 19 (2,154 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

  • The positivity rate continues to rise in S12-2022, ranging from 22% among those aged 0–9 to 37% among those aged 40–49.

  • The screening rate also increases, and this is observed across all age groups.

Bronchiolitis

  • OSCOUR®: In week 12 of 2022, the proportion of activity related to bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age in emergency departments was 3%, representing 59 visits. The proportion of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis among all hospitalizations following an emergency department visit was 7.6% in week 12 of 2022.

  • Virology data: According to results from the virology laboratories at the Nancy and Strasbourg University Hospitals in week 12-2022, the circulation of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) remains stable at a low level in the region.

Influenza

  • Oscour®: The number of emergency department visits for influenza-like illness, across all age groups, continued to rise sharply in week 12 of 2022 compared to the previous week (816 versus 544 in week 11 of 2022) and accounted for 3% of activity. Children under 15 years of age accounted for more than half of the visits.

  • Virology data: According to data from the virology laboratories at the Nancy and Strasbourg University Hospitals, the circulation of influenza viruses continued to rise sharply in week 12-2022 in the region, with almost exclusively influenza A virus.

  • Intensive care units in the region: Since the start of surveillance (10/04/2021), two cases of severe influenza were reported in week 09-2022.

  • Acute respiratory infections in long-term care facilities: Since the start of surveillance (October 4, 2021), 16 episodes of ARI (excluding COVID-19) have been reported.

Gastroenteritis

  • Oscour®: The number of emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis (AGE), all ages (Figure 8), remained stable in week 12 of 2022 (821 visits compared to 879 in week 11 of 2022), accounting for 3% of department activity. Children under 5 years of age still account for the majority of this activity, with 555 visits for gastroenteritis (13% of the activity share for this age group). The proportion of hospitalizations for gastroenteritis across all ages among all hospitalizations following an emergency department visit is stable at 3%, and slightly lower among children under 5 years of age (22%).

  • Virology data: according to data from the virology laboratories at the University Hospitals of Nancy and Strasbourg, rotavirus is by far the most common among enteric viruses and continues to circulate at a high level
