Epidemiological surveillance in the Lorraine region. Update as of January 23, 2014.

Key Points

  • The flu epidemic has not yet begun in Lorraine, as is the case in France. Activity in Lorraine’s emergency departments and at SOS Médecins 54 for flu and flu-like symptoms remains very low.

  • A high number of ICU admissions for the flu is being observed nationwide, even though the epidemic threshold has not yet been reached.

  • Since October 1, the majority of influenza viruses identified in mainland France and Alsace have been type A.

  • Activity related to bronchiolitis is beginning to decline sharply.

  • Activity related to gastroenteritis remains at a relatively high level but is consistent with that observed during the same period last season.
