Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of December 19, 2013.

Key Points

  • According to data from the SOS Médecins associations in the region, the Unified Influenza Network, and the virology laboratory at the Strasbourg University Hospitals, influenza activity has remained low in the Alsace region over the past few weeks. This trend is similar to that observed in mainland France.

  • Despite a slight increase in the number of bronchiolitis cases reported by the SOS Médecins association in Strasbourg, activity related to this condition among children under 2 years of age for both regional associations is lower than that observed during the same period in 2011 and 2012.

  • Over the past two weeks, the number of gastroenteritis diagnoses has been rising. Gastroenteritis is thus the most commonly diagnosed condition for both SOS Médecins associations in Alsace during week 50.

  • According to the Sentinelles Network, the incidence of acute diarrhea in Alsace exceeded the national epidemic threshold in week 50, while the incidence in mainland France remained below it.
