Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of April 17, 2014.

Highlights

  • As is the case nationwide, the flu season is coming to an end in Alsace. The 2013–14 season was marked by a mild and short-lived flu outbreak.

  • This season, the circulating flu viruses were predominantly A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2) in equal proportions.

  • Bronchiolitis-related activity is winding down for both SOS Médecins associations in Alsace.

  • A gradual decline in activity at the SOS Médecins associations related to gastroenteritis is being observed, but enteric viruses continue to be identified in samples sent to the HUS laboratory.

  • The national aerobiological surveillance network indicates that Alsace has been on alert for the risk of birch pollen allergies for several weeks. These pollens are highly allergenic.

  • A significant number of allergies have been diagnosed since mid-March (week 12) for both regional associations, and a peak in asthma diagnoses was observed in week 13 for the Strasbourg association and in week 14 for the Mulhouse association.
