Key Points

Enhanced Surveillance for Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika in France

  • Between May 1 and September 29, 2016, 6 confirmed imported cases of dengue and 16 confirmed imported cases of Zika were reported in the Bas-Rhin (the only department under enhanced surveillance in the ACAL region).

Surveillance of gastroenteritis

  • Over the past two weeks, the proportion of gastroenteritis diagnoses among emergency department visits has been slightly higher than that observed in late September 2015.

  • Similarly, activity at SOS Médecins clinics related to gastroenteritis is high compared to that recorded in previous years during the same period.

  • This high activity is also observed according to data from the Sentinelles Network.

Asthma Surveillance

  • Since mid-September, the proportion of asthma diagnoses in emergency department activity has been high, fluctuating around 70 diagnoses per 10,000 visits.

  • Over the past two weeks, the upward trend has continued for asthma-related activity at SOS Médecins associations in the region. This activity remains within the fluctuations observed in previous years during the same period.

Mortality Monitoring

  • According to available data, mortality rates for all ages and among people aged 75 and older observed over the past few weeks are consistent with seasonal norms.
