COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Grand Est Region as of March 25, 2021

Key Points

  • In week 11 of 2021, the number of new cases continues to rise (14,191 new cases compared to 12,534 in week 10 of 2021). The number of people tested is also increasing (250,825 people in week 11 of 2021 compared to 213,647 in week 10 of 2021). The incidence rate continues to rise (257 new cases per 100,000 residents compared to 227 in week 10 of 2021) but remains below the national incidence rate (315 new cases per 100,000 residents). The positivity rate has remained stable over the past four weeks (5.7% compared to 5.9% in week 10 of 2021).

  • The epidemic situation remains concerning in week 11 of 2021, with viral circulation well above the threshold for active virus circulation (set at 50 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and an upward trend. Viral circulation remains high across all age groups, ranging from 152 per 100,000 among those aged 0–9 to 372 per 100,000 among those aged 20–29. Two-thirds (70%) of new cases tested in week 11 of 2021 are under 50 years old (31% are between 20 and 39 years old) and are therefore, in principle, at low risk of severe illness.

  • In week 11 of 2021, viral circulation is increasing in all departments of the region: the Ardennes (283 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Aube (453 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Marne (258 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Haute-Marne (205 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Meurthe-et-Moselle (279 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Meuse (292 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Moselle (292 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Bas-Rhin (239 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Haut-Rhin (166 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), and Vosges (186 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). The situation remains particularly concerning in Aube, where the incidence rate is still rising sharply and remains the highest in the region.
