First multicenter surveillance study of bacteremia in the Centre region

In accordance with CTIN recommendations, a multicenter surveillance program for bacteremia, conducted according to a CCLIN protocol, was established in 2000 for healthcare facilities in the Centre region. This study provided a measure of the incidence of nosocomial bacteremia in the Centre region, analyzed the results by incorporating the rate of blood culture orders and the size of the facilities, identified multidrug-resistant bacteria—particularly methicillin-resistant staphylococci— track the sources of infection, and assess the impact of bacteremia mortality by recording patient mortality 7 days after the onset of bacteremia.
