Smoke-Free Month 2018, in Brittany
The number of people registered for Tobacco-Free Month was 14,732, representing 2.4% (95% CI [2.1–2.7]) of daily smokers.
People aged 45 and older accounted for 72.1% of calls from Brittany to the Tabac Info Service’s 3989 hotline, compared to 52.8% nationally. Those aged 15–34 accounted for 6.5% of regional calls (compared to 25.2% in France).
228 “Month Without Tobacco” initiatives were reported in the Oscars online database, bringing the total number of initiatives carried out in the region since the 2016 “Month Without Tobacco” campaign to 707.
Attributable fractions, in 2015
The total number of deaths attributable to smoking was estimated at 4,173 (95% CI [4,044–4,357]), representing 12.3% of all deaths occurring that same year in the region, with a higher rate among men (18.8%) than among women (6.0%).
In Brittany, 25% of deaths were attributed to smoking before the age of 65 (premature deaths), compared to 10% after age 65.
The most common causes of smoking-related deaths are cancers (60.9% of annual smoking-related deaths), followed by cardiovascular diseases (21.1% of annual deaths).
