Health Surveillance in Brittany. Epidemiological Update as of October 11, 2017.

Key Points

Asthma / Bronchiolitis

National updates on asthma and bronchiolitis are available on the Santé publique France website. In Brittany, high volumes of patients continue to visit both community and hospital emergency departments for asthma. This coincides with an increase in the circulation of rhinoviruses and enteroviruses identified in respiratory specimens analyzed at the Virology Laboratory of the Brest University Hospital. No respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was detected in the samples, despite the emergence of the first sporadic cases of bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age.

ENT Conditions

Stabilization of patient volume at a high level (data not shown).

Influenza and influenza-like illness

The seasonal influenza vaccination campaign for the 2017–2018 season began on October 6, 2017, and is expected to continue through January 31, 2018. The seasonal surveillance system, established by Santé publique France, begins this week.

The national report on the 2016-2017 seasonal influenza epidemic is available online.
