Health Surveillance in Brittany. Epidemiological Update as of November 26, 2014.

Resumption of surveillance for severe influenza cases

Surveillance of severe influenza cases requiring admission to intensive care units (ICUs) and/or critical care units (CCUs) will resume starting in week 47 in the Brittany region. As has been the case every year since 2009, the InVS unit in the Brittany region is responsible for conducting this surveillance—which is intended to be as comprehensive as possible—of these severe cases, in close collaboration with the various intensive care and/or critical care units in the Brittany region, which will report their hospitalized cases to the unit. Thus, a first case of severe influenza in a young patient, aged 7, hospitalized on November 22 in an intensive care unit in Finistère, was reported to us on November 25. This patient was infected with a type B influenza virus. The other influenza surveillance indicators monitored by Cire Ouest remain low and in line with expected seasonal values.
