Health Monitoring in Brittany. Update as of September 21, 2021.
Key Points
COVID-19
The incidence rate (IR), calculated based on PCR and antigen tests, continues to decline. The IR fell from 68.1 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 36 to 51.5 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 37. IRs are below 100 per 100,000 inhabitants and declining across all departments in the region: -6 points in Côtes d’Armor, -19 points in Finistère, -17 points in Ille-et-Vilaine, and -21 points in Morbihan.
Despite the improvement in the epidemiological situation across all Breton departments, attention remains focused on those aged 65–79, on a few communities of municipalities (Arc Sud Bretagne, Blavet Bellevue Océan, Liffré-Cormier Communauté, Saint-Méen-le-Grand, and Kreiz-Breizh), as well as on schools in connection with the start of the school year. Inconsistencies in vaccination coverage trends have been identified following the modification of the algorithm to account for booster doses. Therefore, vaccination coverage estimates are not being produced this week.
Heat-related health issues
Finistère and Morbihan were placed under a yellow heat wave alert by Météo-France from July 19 to 22, 2021. Outside of this period, Brittany remained under a green heat wave alert. Activity was low, close to levels seen in previous years, excluding periods of extreme heat. The 2021 heat wave monitoring period ended on September 15.
