Health Monitoring in Brittany. Update as of October 3, 2023.

Key Points

Asthma

  • SOS Médecins indicators have shown an upward trend since the start of the school year. A decrease in the number of hospital emergency room visits was observed in Week 39 compared to Week 38, particularly among those aged 5–14 and 15–74. An increase in asthma attacks is typically observed each year around the start of the school year.

Bronchiolitis

  • Activity outside of an epidemic. Increase in the number of emergency room visits compared to week 38. Low detection of RSV according to the virology laboratories at the Brest and Rennes University Hospitals. Other viruses capable of causing bronchiolitis are circulating, notably rhinoviruses.

Extreme heat, heat wave

  • The seasonal surveillance system ended on September 30. The Ille-et-Vilaine department was placed under a yellow heat wave alert from September 4 to 9, 2023, coinciding with a rise in indicators related to heat-related illnesses. Outside of these dates, Brittany has been under a green heat wave alert since the start of surveillance.

ENT Conditions

  • Stabilization of ENT conditions across all age groups in hospital emergency rooms and at SOS Médecins following sharp increases in recent weeks during the back-to-school period. High detection rates of rhinoviruses/enteroviruses by the virology laboratories at the Brest University Hospital (20% positivity rate (12/60)).
