Key Points

COVID-19

The epidemic continues to slow down. Decrease in the incidence rate and positivity rate calculated from PCR and antigen tests. The incidence rate has dropped from 95.5 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 19 to 93.7 per 100,000 in Week 20, and the positivity rate has fallen from 3.7% in Week 19 to 3.2% in Week 20. These indicators are declining across all age groups and departments. All morbidity and mortality indicators are declining. The proportion of suspected cases involving the so-called British variant, as well as those involving the Brazilian or South African variants, remain stable at 83.5% and 2.3%, respectively. Vaccination coverage stands at 38.4% for a single dose.

Bronchiolitis

  • Post-epidemic activity in a slight downward phase

  • Oscour®: Decrease in the number of emergency room visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age, with 36 visits (compared to 42 last week). Bronchiolitis accounts for 5.2% of visits among children under 2 years of age.

  • SOS Médecins: low number of consultations; bronchiolitis accounts for 3.1% of consultations among children under 2 years of age in week 20.

  • Virology data: increase in the proportion of RSV-positive samples at the Virology Laboratory of the Rennes University Hospital (positivity rate = 20% (9/45)) and stabilization according to data from the Virology Laboratory of the Brest University Hospital (positivity rate = 4.9% (16/327)).

Gastroenteritis and acute diarrhea

  • Moderate activity, declining in hospital emergency departments.

  • Oscour®: decrease in the number of emergency department visits compared to Week 19 (125 visits vs. 160 in Week 19), primarily affecting children under 5 years of age. Children under 5 account for 58% of cases. Gastroenteritis accounts for 5.7% of emergency department visits among children under 5. Cases across all age groups are close to typical levels for this time of year (excluding the pandemic).

  • SOS Médecins: The number of SOS Médecins consultations remained stable compared to the previous week (124 consultations versus 128 in week 19) across all age groups. Across all age groups, gastroenteritis accounted for 4.5% of total SOS Médecins activity and 7.2% among children under 5.

  • Sentinelles Network: low activity in week 20: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 67 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [28; 106], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).

  • Virology data: according to data from the Virology Laboratory at Brest University Hospital, Rotavirus is circulating (positivity rate = 21% (3/14)).Six rotavirus-positive samples (6/17) among enteric samples analyzed at the Rennes University Hospital and two norovirus-positive samples (2/17); no samples tested positive for astrovirus or adenovirus.
