Key Points
COVID-19
Virology: Slight increase in the number of PCR tests in week 04 compared to the previous week, with 70,717 PCR tests in week 04 (+7.4% / W03 – unconsolidated data) – decrease in antigen tests, with 10,637 tests in week 04. Slight increase in the incidence rate and stagnation in the positivity rate calculated from PCR and antigen tests. In week 04, the incidence rate increased, rising from 100.8 per 100,000 inhabitants in week 03 to 106.7 per 100,000 inhabitants in week 04. The positivity rate was 4.4% versus 4.5% in week 03.
SI-VIC: On February 3, 2021, there were 724 hospitalizations in Brittany, including 43 in intensive care. The majority of hospitalizations occurred in Ille-et-Vilaine (51.5%). There was an increase in hospitalizations compared to the previous week (+10.4%).
ESMS: From March 1, 2020, through February 4, 1,144 facilities reported an outbreak, including 703 confirmed by one or more confirmed cases—residents or staff members—linked to COVID-19 in Brittany. These included 698 (61%) nursing homes for the elderly (EHPAD) and 446 (39%) other medical-social facilities (EMS). The 1,144 reports corresponded to a total of 10,901 cases of COVID-19 (3,217 confirmed cases and 7,684 possible cases) among residents, of whom 690 were hospitalized. Among these possible and confirmed cases, 270 died in the facilities and 156 died in the hospital out of the total 1,144 reports; and in the 703 facilities with a confirmed case, there were 254 deaths in the facility and 147 deaths in the hospital, respectively
Oscour: Stable number of emergency room visits in week 04 (170 versus 180 in week 03). 57.6% of visits resulted in hospitalization in week 04 (versus 63.3% in week 03).
SOS Médecins: Decrease in the number of SOS Médecins consultations in week 04 (78 versus 100 consultations in week 03).
Intensive Care: Among the cases reported by sentinel intensive care units (180 cases), 73% were men and the median age was 69 years. The majority (88%) had at least one comorbidity. The most common were obesity (41%), hypertension (33%), diabetes (28%), and heart disease (28%).
COVID-19 Vaccination: As of February 2, 2021 (data by date of administration), 85,959 people had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Brittany, and 4,969 people had received two doses (data by date of administration, COVID-19 Vaccine data, CNAM, analyzed by Santé publique France). It is therefore estimated that, as of this date, 2.6% of the population in Brittany has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 0.1% has received two doses.
Bronchiolitis
Low activity, lower than in previous years.
Oscour®: Stable trend over the past few weeks with an increase in the number of emergency room visits compared to the previous week. Bronchiolitis accounted for 3.8% of emergency room visits among children under 2 years of age in week 04.
SOS Médecins: Slight decrease in indicators compared to the previous week. Bronchiolitis accounted for 1.9% of consultations among children under 2 years of age in week 04.
Virology data: Circulation of RSV (n=2 at the virology laboratory of the Brest University Hospital and 4 at the Rennes University Hospital laboratory).
Gastroenteritis
Activity lower than in previous years for emergency room visits and within seasonal averages for SOS Médecins.
Oscour®: Increase in the number of emergency department visits over the past two consecutive weeks (70 visits) and in the associated visit rate compared to the previous week. Children under 5 years of age account for 47.1% of cases.
SOS Médecins: Increase in the number of consultations compared to the previous week (161 consultations versus 127 in S03).
Sentinelles Network: Low to moderate activity: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 72 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [33; 111], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).
Virological data: No enteric viruses detected in week 04 at Brest University Hospital. Three positive samples at Rennes University Hospital (1 adenovirus and 2 noroviruses).
Influenza
Resumption of influenza surveillance since week 40.
No influenza activity.
No viruses detected in week 04.
