Health Monitoring in Brittany. Update as of August 19, 2021

Key Points

COVID-19

Increase in the incidence rate (IR) calculated based on PCR and antigen tests. The IR rose from 118 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 31 to 140 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 32. This increase comes amid rising testing rates and a declining positivity rate (PR), which has been significantly influenced by the implementation of the health pass. Particular attention should be paid to the Côtes d’Armor and Ille-et-Vilaine departments. Attention should also be paid, as the start of the school year approaches, to the 0-15 age group, for which the PP has been steadily increasing since mid-July without a corresponding rise in the testing rate and with a slight increase in the IT. Across the region, 98% of screenings identify the L452R variant. Consequently, the identified clusters also overwhelmingly involve cases carrying this variant, particularly in nursing homes and at vacation destinations (campgrounds, summer camps, and vacation camps). Vaccination coverage stands at 75.7% for a single dose and 64.4% for a full course.

Extreme heat, heat wave

Finistère and Morbihan were placed under a yellow heat wave alert by Météo-France from July 19 to 22, 2021. Outside of this period, Brittany remained under a green heat wave alert. There has been a slight increase in healthcare utilization for heat-related conditions this week, but activity remains within seasonal norms.
