Public Health Monitoring in the Bourgogne and Franche-Comté Regions. Update as of December 30, 2021.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • SARS-CoV-2 transmission is very active in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté this week and has increased significantly in recent days.

  • SARS-CoV-2 viral circulation has risen again by nearly 20% this week. All age groups are affected by this trend except for those aged 65 and older (stable) and those under 15 (decrease coinciding with a drop in testing rates). The positivity rate is very high (around 12%) among those aged 15–44.

  • SARS-CoV-2 is circulating at high levels throughout the region. Only Nièvre has an incidence rate below 400 per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • The increase in incidence rates in the Doubs and Jura is small (less than 5%) compared to other departments (between +10% and +73%); this increase is linked to increased testing during the holidays in the departments of Yonne (89) and Territoire-de-Belfort (90).

Flu

  • SOS Médecins’ flu-related activity is stable, while emergency department activity is increasing in the region. Activity levels, however, remain comparable to the 2019–2020 season (the pre-COVID season).

  • No new severe cases of influenza have been reported by the sentinel network of intensive care units (a total of 2 cases admitted to intensive care: 1 in S49 and 1 in S50).

Bronchiolitis

In an epidemic phase for 11 weeks.

  • The decline in activity is confirmed at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments but remains at a high level.

  • The epidemic began early but was comparable to 2019, whereas in 2020 it was impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

Gastroenteritis

  • Activity at SOS Médecins remains at levels comparable to previous years.

  • The rate of visits for gastroenteritis in emergency departments continues to rise and remains above the levels observed during the same period in the two previous seasons.
