Mental Health in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region. Bimonthly Epidemiological Report, March 15, 2022.
Key Points
Oscour® Network Emergency Department Visit Indicators:
Among adults aged 18 and older, the monthly number of emergency department visits for mental health issues in January and February 2022 remained stable compared to the numbers recorded during the same period in 2021. The monthly share of visits in January and February 2022 is lower than that observed in 2021 and in 2018–2020.
Among children (under 18), the monthly number of emergency department visits for mental health issues in January 2022 is significantly higher than the number recorded in January 2021. In February 2022, the number of visits was similar to that of 2021 and to the average number of visits from 2018 to 2020. The monthly activity rate in January and February 2022 was lower than in 2021 and higher than in 2018–2020.
Other mental health monitoring indicators from the Oscour® network show no significant changes.
The decline in emergency care use during the lockdowns of 2020 (weeks 12 to 19 – March to May) and 2021 (weeks 44 to 51 – late October to mid-December) calls for caution in interpreting these data.
Indicators from the CoviPrev survey:
In Wave 32 (February 2022), mental health indicators were generally stable but high, particularly regarding sleep problems and suicidal thoughts reported over the past 12 months (with no proven link to the pandemic).
No statistically significant changes in these indicators were observed between October/December 2021 and January/February 2022.
