Health Monitoring in the Bourgogne and Franche-Comté Regions. Update as of August 19, 2021

Key Points

COVID-19

The regional incidence rate has risen slightly again this week, though it remains lower than the national rate (2.45 per 10,500
residents). Despite the sharp increase in the testing rate in S32 (+38%) (the highest rate recorded since monitoring began), the positivity
rate remains relatively stable but still high and rising among those under 15 (8.3%) and those 65 and older (2.6%).
The majority of people tested are asymptomatic (likely due to the “Health Pass” requirement for recreational and cultural
venues).

The number of new hospitalizations and admissions to critical care has been rising for the past three weeks, but the number of deaths
remains relatively stable (5 in Week 32 vs. 7 in Week 31).

At the regional level, there is a slight increase in the incidence rate amid a sharp rise in testing rates and
a relatively stable positivity rate. Hospital indicators continue their upward trends this week (new hospitalizations
and admissions to critical care units).

At the departmental level: the threshold of 100 per 100,000 inhabitants has been exceeded in all departments except Nièvre and Yonne.
The positivity rate in the Belfort region remains relatively high this week (4.5% in Week 32 vs. 4.3% in Week 31).

As vaccination efforts continue, modeling shows that even a modest decline in transmission can have a rapid impact on hospitalizations: this reduction in transmission is achieved through strict adherence to barrier measures and contact reduction strategies (hygiene practices, mask-wearing, Health Pass).
