Public Health Surveillance in Rhône-Alpes. Epidemiological Update as of August 21, 2012

Situation in Rhône-Alpes

In the Rhône-Alpes region, the transition to MIGA (Level 2 of the 2012 heat wave plan) was triggered by three departmental prefects, effective Friday, August 17, 2012, for the Rhône, Isère, and Loire departments. The prefect of the Ain department ordered the transition to Level 2, effective Saturday, August 18, 2012. Based on available weather forecasts, it is likely that the heat wave plan will return to Level 1 by midweek for the affected departments (01, 38, 42, 69), but proactive monitoring will continue. The analysis covers week 33 (Monday, August 13, through Sunday, August 19). It was not until the end of the week (Friday, August 17) that the heat wave set in. During this brief heat wave episode, monitoring of the indicators available to date has not revealed any major health consequences, particularly among the population aged 75 and older.
