Public Health Monitoring in Rhône-Alpes. Update as of March 15, 2012.

Situation in Rhône-Alpes

  • The flu epidemic peaked during week 7 (February 13–19). Since Week 8 (February 20–26), the number of flu-like illness diagnoses has been decreasing in emergency departments and among SOS Médecins associations. The incidence rate estimated by the Sentinelles network has also been declining since Week 8, though it remains above the epidemic threshold. The number of reported hospitalizations for severe influenza cases in intensive care and clusters of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes has been declining over the past two weeks. The A(H3N2) virus is predominant, both in community practice and among patients hospitalized in intensive care or in nursing home influenza outbreaks.

  • The number of bronchiolitis cases diagnosed by emergency departments and SOS Médecins associations continues to decline.

  • The number of cases of gastroenteritis diagnosed by emergency departments and SOS Médecins associations has been increasing over the past two weeks.

  • The number of nasopharyngitis diagnoses made by SOS Médecins associations continues to decline, though it remains at high levels, similar to those observed last year during the same period.

  • The rise in mortality observed since Week 6 (February 6–12) appears to have peaked during Week 8 (February 20–26).
