On March 22, 2014, the Guinean Ministry of Health notified the WHO of an outbreak of viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) caused by the Ebola virus, "Zaire" strain, in southern Guinea. Since the beginning of 2014, cases of Ebola virus disease have been reported in southern Guinea (the forested area in the southeast of the country, the epicenter of the outbreak, in Guekedou, Ma-centa, and Kissidougou), in two districts of Upper Guinea (Diabola and Dinguiraye), and in Conakry, the country’s capital. Since late March, Liberia and Sierra Leone have also reported cases and deaths linked to the Ebola virus.
