Key Points

COVID-19

  • The incidence rate, at 367 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, has fallen by 33%, and the positivity rate has dropped by 6.6 percentage points to 21.5%. Incidence rates are declining across all age groups and in all departments.

  • SOS Médecins calls remain stable, and emergency room visits are decreasing. In long-term care facilities (ESMS) and nursing homes (S17), new outbreaks and the number of cases among residents and staff are decreasing. The number of deaths remains stable.

  • As of May 10, the total number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 and the number of people receiving critical care have decreased by 8% and 14%, respectively, compared to May 3. In S18, the number of new hospitalizations has decreased by 30% and the number of new admissions to critical care by 12%. The highest hospitalization rates are still observed in Allier and Cantal. The number of hospital deaths is decreasing in S18.

Influenza

  • During Week 18, in inpatient care, according to data from the Oscour® network, emergency department visits for all ages in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes for a diagnosis of influenza/influenza-like illness continued to decline (Figure 7). In Week 17, 111 emergency department visits for influenza/influenza-like illness were recorded (-48% compared to Week 17), representing 0.3% of all emergency department visits across all age groups (down from Week 17). Of these 111 visits, 11 were followed by hospitalization, representing a hospitalization rate of 9.9% for this diagnosis, lower than in Week 17. Hospitalizations for influenza/influenza-like illness accounted for 0.2% of all hospitalizations in Week 18, down from the previous week.

  • In private practice, according to SOS Médecins data, the number of consultations continued to decline in Week 18, with 225 consultations for influenza/influenza-like illness recorded (248 consultations in Week 17, Figure 8), representing a 3.8% share of activity (4.5% in Week 17). Indicators from the Sentinelles network show a stable incidence rate of influenza-like illness cases seen in general practice, with the rate rising from 42 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [21–63]) in Week 17 to 50 (95% CI [23–77]) in Week 18.
