COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes as of July 9, 2020

Summary

In Week 27 (June 29 to July 5, 2020), the main epidemiological indicators for COVID-19 showed little change compared to the previous week and remained at a low level.

Indicators of outpatient care for suspected COVID-19 rose slightly in connection with the resumption of school, which is conducive to the development of respiratory symptoms. The number of emergency room visits remained stable, while virological surveillance indicators and reports from medical-social facilities showed a downward trend. Hospital indicators continued to decline or stabilize.

These observations warrant close epidemiological monitoring, as the number of SARS-CoV-2 infection clusters currently under investigation in the region is not decreasing. This situation calls for limiting large gatherings and adhering to preventive measures, particularly during family gatherings and for individuals returning from areas where the virus is circulating heavily. The summer season must not cause us to forget the importance of these universal measures, particularly the wearing of masks in enclosed spaces where the public is present. Finally, in this context, the role of primary care physicians is essential to ensure that any suspected case of SARS-CoV-2 infection can undergo virological testing and benefit from measures to reduce the risk of transmission.
