COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes as of August 20, 2020
Key Points
In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, during week 33 (August 10–16, 2020), the increase in the number of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases continued, with 1,283 new cases confirmed by RT-PCR, compared to 816 cases in week 32. The incidence rate, defined as the number of positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants in a week, rose from 10.2 in week 32 to 16.0 in week 33, representing a 57% increase. At the same time, the number of people tested remained stable, indicating a real increase in virus transmission. The positivity rate rose to 2.6%. Among those testing positive for SARS-CoV-2, people aged 20 to 30 are the most represented (31.5% of cases), though there has been an increase in cases across other age groups.
Incidence rates vary across departments; the highest rates are observed in the Rhône and Haute-Savoie, which are now at a moderate vulnerability level. The weekly number of new cluster reports is stable compared to the previous week. As of August 19, 23 SARS-CoV-2 infection clusters are being monitored, 8 of which are in Isère. Other regional COVID-19 monitoring indicators, notably SOS Médecins consultations and hospitalizations, are trending upward in week 33, although the numbers remain limited.
