Epidemiological Situation of Gastroenteritis in Guadeloupe. Update as of March 1, 2012.

The gastroenteritis outbreak detected in Guadeloupe in early January has begun to subside since the peak in patient visits to private practices observed in late January. However, the outbreak is not yet over.

To limit the spread of the viruses causing these outbreaks, it is essential to follow basic hygiene rules, including regular handwashing with soap, especially when caring for vulnerable individuals and before meals. In addition, parents are reminded that if their children (especially the youngest ones) show symptoms of gastroenteritis (diarrhea, vomiting), they should consult their primary care physician to prevent dehydration, which can be severe in infants.
