Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in Martinique. Update as of March 11, 2014.
Situation Analysis
All epidemiological surveillance indicators for dengue fever in Martinique point to the epidemic continuing. It has now been ongoing for 32 weeks. The peak of the epidemic occurred between mid-September and early October. Over the past five weeks, all indicators show that the overall trend remains downward. They remain close to the expected maximum values, except in weeks 2014-08 and 2014-09, when the number of confirmed and probable cases was well below the threshold. No unusual severity of this epidemic has been observed to date. The predominance of DENV-2, observed since early 2013, continues. The situation corresponds to Phase 4, Level 1 of the Psage Dengue system (confirmed epidemic). Given the epidemiological situation, it is important to reiterate the importance of eliminating larval breeding sites and taking individual precautions against mosquitoes.
