Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in Martinique. Update as of August 20, 2013.
Situation Analysis
Since the third week of July, the epidemiological situation regarding dengue in Martinique has corresponded to Phase 2, Level 2 of the Psage* dengue system: active circulation of the virus. Until the end of July, this circulation resulted in the emergence of multiple outbreaks. In early August, various indicators showed an intensification and widespread circulation of dengue. Analysis of the data showed that this situation corresponded to Phase 3 of the Psage*: epidemic risk. Over the past three weeks, the expected maximum values for the weekly number of clinically suggestive cases and for the number of probable or confirmed cases have been exceeded. The trend in other available indicators (dengue-related consultations by SOS Médecins physicians, dengue-related visits to pediatric emergency departments, number of hospitalized cases) confirms the intensification of dengue transmission in Martinique. Dengue transmission also appears to be becoming more widespread, as it has been observed in 22 out of 34 municipalities, located in central and southern Martinique. These data were reviewed by the CEMIE** on August 14, 2013. This committee determined that the situation corresponded to Phase 4 of the Psage*, the confirmed epidemic phase, with the start of the epidemic set at July 22, 2013 (S2013-30).
