Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in French Guiana. Update as of March 15, 2013.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Between late February and early March, dengue activity remained at high levels throughout the department. The evolving situation on Cayenne Island led the Committee for Monitoring Insect-Borne Human Diseases to declare, on March 11, 2013, that this sector had entered Phase 4 of the Psage** “Epidemic Phase” (see pages 5). The Kourou sector remains in an epidemic phase (see page 4), as does St. Georges. The Western sector remains in a pre-epidemic phase (see page 6). Dengue cases continue to be reported in other inland municipalities, such as Maripasoula, where the number of clinically suggestive cases is increasing. The DENV-1, DENV-2, and DENV-4 serotypes are still being identified. Given the overall epidemiological situation, it is important to remember the importance of eliminating larval breeding sites and protecting oneself against mosquitoes. In the event of sudden onset of fever, it is recommended to consult your primary care physician.
